A Reason to Celebrate

Regular readers will know I grew up in a city environment and moved into the country. I live in a valley ringed by a dense wall of trees. The fencing is secure, and the valley is a sanctuary.

I am amazed by nature. This Sunday, over a leisurely breakfast on the southern verandah, we watched a myriad of different birds on the wing indulging in aerial acrobats. Clearly, they are celebrating Spring, revelling in the mellowness of the morning as they soar on gentle air currents that flow over our valley’s topography.

The seasonal shift from the extremely cold weather that resulted in snow just a week ago was signalled at sunrise with the warbling, glottal throaty harmonies of currawongs (a species of native bird for those people overseas). That shift is also evident in the masses of wildflowers decorating roadside and grassland.

Today is the sort of day you are glad to be alive. The season holds promise of better, lighter times.
